The Shed Collaboration – An Open Source Movie

by Justin on Jun.27, 2010, under Crowd sourcing, Media, Script Writing

I have decided to open the script for “The Shed” up to anyone who wants to help see this become a reality.  It will be a long term project, simply due to the ambitiousness of the idea.  Here it is in a nutshell:

Take a script for a short film.  Expand the story behind the script to include enough material for 3 separate scripts, each from the point of view of one of the 3 main characters.

Create the scripts, including instructions for filming(i.e. multiple Camera angles of the same scene etc)

Crowdfund the resources needed to pay everyone involved in the actual filming.  This includes actors, camera crew, director, etc.

This way everyone who should have been paid for their time have been, with the exception of the “script writers”, which will be the broader community in general.

The raw footage can then be released under a Creative Commons license, allowing anyone to remix and mashup the footage to create their own vision of how the story should play out in film form.

The production is being hosted on WreckAMovie.com (http://www.wreckamovie.com/theshedcollaboration)

Currently only the basic avenues for discussion have been set up, as well as the original script, my notes for what I intended the vision to be, and the raw assets used so far for things like the movie poster.

Stocktaking

by Justin on Jun.13, 2010, under ARG Manager, Flux Singularity, Media, Personal, Script Writing, Story Writing, Technology, The New Baby

With the new baby due in a little over 6 weeks, I have had to take a long hard look at the projects I have in their various states of incompleteness.  Everything from horror movie scripts to iPhone apps.  Some are easier to drop from the list than others, but with my personal time about to be slashed, it is something that needs to be done.

The iPhone apps are easy, for the simple reason that Apple have made it too hard and too expensive for me to “get into the game”.  Add to that the fact that even if the app is approved, they could pull it any time, and the decision is made.

The horror movie scripts, well script, one is little more than an idea.  Tougher.  Especially the script for “The Shed”, a script I bought last year from a guy called Alex Whitmer.  While I’d love to be able see the script turned into a Feature length film and my full vision created, it is just not going to happen in the near future, so that is going to be dropped as well.  I’m actually thinking of releasing the script under an Open license, maybe one day I’ll be able to watch someone else’s vision of the script.

One I’m really not ready to let go of, even though nothing has progressed in FAR too long, is OpenEmergency.com.  I think the idea is good, but again, time is against me at the moment, so it will have to move to the back burner for a while.

The rest are minor ideas or projects that I feel can wait indefinitely so I’m not too worried about those.

This has left me with only one item on my list. Actually two, but they each rely on the other so I’m counting them as.  These are “One Man’s Life Work” a constant and persistent fictional universe and “Flux Singularity” the software to run it.

I’ll be working to consolidate the information on both projects in the next week or so, to help give myself a firmer direction for them.

Crowd Sourcing Experiment #1 – Ideas for torture (mwah ah ah ah ahhhhhh)

by Justin on Feb.09, 2010, under Crowd sourcing, Media, Script Writing

I’m currently in the process of writing a movie script.  Generally, the script is going quite well, with the primary scenes and general flow laid out.

The details of each scene are coming along, although I am starting to hit a bit of snag in terms of ideas.  Enter you, dear citizens of the interwebs.  I need some help coming up with ideas for methods of torture.

The primary protagonist is a young woman, and most of the scenes revolve around her torturing a young man.  This is NOT going to be a “Saw” type movie, attempting to “wow” the audience with pure shock, as I’ll never actually be showing the torture happening, but I want the audience to get the idea of what is happening.

An example is where the woman drives an awl into the leg of her victim.  You’ll see her raise the awl, you see her arm swinging down, but instead of seeing the awl pierce the flesh of the victim, you’ll see his face instead, or see the event happen as a silhouette, a shadow on the wall.

The “torture room” is a shed or garage, so any “tools” would need to be common to such a place.

Please impress me with your brilliance!! (and thanks in advance)

P.S.  Please keep in mind that is NOT going to be a “Saw” like movie, so no “Shock factor” type stuff.  There will not be copious  amounts of blood being thrown around, our evil woman wants this man to survive as long as possible, in terrible pain.
